Systematic investigations to acquire facts that can be used to solve or prevent problems, enhance lifestyles, advance technologies, or increase income. This is contrasted to basic research. Most of social work research is considered applied research because it pertains mostly to the interactions between people and their environment, social problems, and methods for helping.
