இரத்தத்தை எடுத்துச் செல்லும் இரத்தக்குழாய்கள் (தமனிகள்) தடிப்பதாலும், அதன் நெகிழ்ச்சித் தன்மையை இழப்பதாலும் இரத்தம் செல்வதில் தடையேற்படுகிறது. இதனால் இரத்த அழுத்தம், பக்கவாதம், குருதிக்குடா (குருதிக்குழாய் பலூன் போன்று வீங்கி இரத்தம் தங்குதல்), மூளைத் திசுக்கள் சிதைவு போன்றவை ஏற்பட்டு நினைவிழப்பு, குழப்பம், கவனக்குறைவு ஏற்படும்.
