தணிக்கை (audit) என்பதை ஒன்றைப் பற்றி செய்யும் மதிப்பாய்வு என்று பொதுவாகச் சொல்லலாம். தணிக்கையும், தணிக்கையாளர்களும் பலவகைப்பட்டாலும் நிதித் தணிக்கை அல்லது வரவு செலவுத் தணிக்கைதான் சாதாரண மக்களுக்குப் பரிச்சயமானது. ஒரு சமூக சேவை நிறுவனம் தனக்கு வழங்கப்பட்ட நிதி உதவியை எப்படிச் செலவு செய்தது என்று காட்டும் நிறுவனத்தின் கணக்குப் பதிவுகளை நிறுவனத்தின் நோக்கங்களுக்கும், விதிமுறைகளுக்கும் இணங்கச் செய்துள்ளதா என்று சரிபார்த்து மதிப்பீடு செய்து அறிக்கை வழங்குவது.
