black power

The social movement whose goal is the achievement of greater racial equity in economic, political, and social influence. A basic premise of the movement is that black influence will grow as more black people gain positions of leadership in elective office, government, and business and acquire enough money to use in seeking legal rights and educational opportunities. The movement seeks to get black people who achieve these positions to work together in pursuit of these goals rather than dilute such efforts by working in disparate directions.
