Refugees who flee their homelands in barely seaworthy vessels to find more hospitable environments in other nations. Many of these people have faced great risks, including capture by their governments, piracy, malnutrition, and possible exploitation at the sites of their new locations. People from Southeast Asia, Haiti, and Cuba are recent examples.
