Breathalyzer

Trademark for a test device used to determine if a person is intoxicated. Most commonly administered by a trained police officer on those people operating motor vehicles, the test chemically analyzes the blood alcohol level (BAL) as indicated by a breath test. Most states require that applicants for driver's licenses consent in advance to taking the test when requested, and failure to take or pass the test is admissible in court.
