chaining

In behavior modification, a specific and complex series of connected or associated stimulus–response units that terminate with the delivery of a reinforcer. Social workers using behavioral techniques also use “backward chaining” in which the last stimulus–response unit of a chain is established first, and the other units are then added in reverse order until the desired chain is complete.
