The Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services, a federally funded health insurance program for the dependents of active duty and retired U.S. military personnel. CHAMPUS pays a significant proportion of the health care costs for the beneficiary in the private health care service–delivery system when such care is unavailable or inaccessible in military medical facilities. In certain circumstances, qualified social workers are directly reimbursed by CHAMPUS for providing their professional services in the care of people with mental disorders.
