check-in

A structure exercise often used in social work with groups or families in which each of the members is asked, at the beginning of the session, to indicate what they are specifically concerned about or would like to discuss. Check-ins are used to assure that all members of the session are heard from and become the focus of some attention. When the procedure occurs at the end of a group session, it is known as the “check-out.” Check-in is the most common of the group procedures known as go-round.
