citizens committee

A supposedly nonpartisan organization established to bring about social change or elect a candidate. Often such committees develop in response to a specific problem, stay focused only on that problem, and disband when that problem is solved. Many citizens committees are set up by political parties or permanent social cause groups to organize otherwise independent voters or residents of a specific jurisdiction.
