civic associations

Private voluntary associations whose members meet regularly to socialize and to plan and implement activities for the benefit of the community. These associations vary considerably in their goals, methods, and membership requirements. Some of these associations, which have chapters in most communities, include the Rotary, Lions, Jaycees, Junior League, and Business and Professional Women's clubs.
