ஒரு வார்த்தையின் ஒலி அதற்கு ஒத்த ஒலியுடைய இயல்பொலியாயமைகின்ற இன்னொரு வார்த்தையோடு பொருத்திப் பார்க்க (தடிக்குரல், மிரட்டுக்குரல், பல நேயங்கள் வாய்ந்தகுரல், எக்காள ஒலி) மனதைத் தூண்டுவது. இந்தத் தூண்டல் அடிக்கடி ஏற்படும் போது அது மனச்சிதைவு மற்றும் மன அலைகழிப்பிற்கும் (obessive), இச்சைக்கு மாறாகச் (compulsive) செயல்படும் மனநோயின் அறிகுறிகளாகும்.

A mental process in which the sound of one word reminds an individual of a similar-sounding expression. Often this process leads the person to think of the meaning in the new expression or to other similar-sounding words. Frequent fixation on clang associations is sometimes symptomatic of mental disorders such as schizophrenia and obsessive–compulsive disorder.
