clinician

A professional, working directly with clients, whose practice occurs primarily in an office, hospital, clinic, or other controlled environment. In such settings, the practitioner studies the problem, assesses and diagnoses the client situation, and directly treats or helps the client to achieve prescribed goals. The social work clinician is generally one who provides direct treatment to the client (individual, family, or group), usually in the social worker's office.
