பல்வேறு விதமான பொருள்தரும் வார்த்தை. வணிகச் சின்னங்கள் கொடுக்கும் தர உத்திரவாதம் போன்று இன்னும் பல அர்த்தங்களில் பயன்படும் வார்த்தை. ஆனால் மனித சேவைத் துறையில் வழக்கு விசாரணைக்குப் பின்னர், நீதி மன்றத் தீர்ப்பின்படி, ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட நபரை மன நலக் காப்பகத்திலோ அல்லது மருத்துவமனையிலோ ஒப்படைக்கும் செயலைக் குறிக்கும். சமூகப்பணிக் கல்வியில், எந்த நிறுவனம் தன்னுடைய கல்விக்கு ஏற்பாதரவு (sponsor) தந்து கல்வி உதவித் தொகை வழங்குகிறதோ, அந்த நிறுவனத்தில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்த காலம் வரைக்கும் பணியாற்ற ஒப்புதல் அளிப்பது.
