ஒரு குடியிருப்புப் பகுதியிலோ, குழுவிலோ, வட்டாரத்திலோ, சமுதாயத்திலோ (இடம் சார்ந்த, ஆர்வ ஒற்றுமையுள்ள) குறிப்பிட்ட நோக்கங்களை அடையத் திட்டமிட்டு எடுக்கப்படும் முயற்சிகளை உடனிருந்து ஊக்குவிப்பவர்கள் சமுதாய அமைப்பாளர்கள் என்றழைக்கப்படுகின்றனர். இவர்கள் பலதரப்பட்டவர்களாக இருக்கலாம். உள்ளூர்த் தலைவர்கள், அரசியல் பிரதிநிதித்துவ அதிகாரமுள்ளவர்கள், அரசு அதிகாரிகள், சமூகப் பணி கல்வித் தகுதியையோ, பிற கல்வித்தகுதிகளையோ (திட்டமிடல், அரசியல், சமூகவியல் இன்னபிற) பின்னணியாகக் கொண்ட நிபுணத்துவம் கொண்டவர்கள் சமூக அமைப்பாளர்களாக பணியாற்றுகின்றனர். அவர்கள் தாங்கள் பணியாற்றும் சமுதாயங்கள் சமூகப்பொருளாதார வளர்ச்சியடையவும், சமூக நீதி பெறவும் உதவுகின்றனர்.

Facilitators of planned efforts to achieve specified goals in the development of a group, neighborhood, constituency, or other community. Community organizers may be indigenous community leaders, political office holders, or government bureaucrats, but more often they are professionals with backgrounds in social work, political science, planning, interpersonal relations, public relations, sociology, or community development. They work as consultants, planners, grant developers, or active leaders, and they usually seek to help community members achieve social justice, economic or social development, or other improvements.
