போரில் பங்கெடுப்பதையோ, இராணுவப் பயிற்சியில் பங்கெடுப்பதையோ தன் மதநம்பிக்கையின் அடிப்படையில் எதிர்ப்பவர் / மறுப்பவர். கட்டாய இராணுவப் பயிற்சியுள்ள நாடுகளில் இராணுவப் பயிற்சியிலிருந்து இவர்கள் விலக்களிக்கப்பட்டாலும், அதற்கு மாற்றான சமுதாய சேவையிலிருந்து இவர்கள் விடுபட முடியாது. மனச்சாட்சிப்படி சிலவற்றை மறுப்பவர்கள் மத நம்பிக்கை கொண்டவர்களாக இருக்க வேண்டியதில்லை. ஆனால் இராணுவ நடவடிக்கைகளை மறுப்பது மத நம்பிக்கையின் அடிப்படையிலேதான் மறுக்க முடியும். .

One who is opposed to participation in war and military activity because of religious beliefs. A conscientious objector may be exempted from a combat role but not from public service duties such as military or civilian hospital work. One need not be a member of an established religious organization to become a conscientious objector, but the objection to war must be based on religious rather than social or political beliefs.
