Committees on Occupational Health and Safety, private, nonprofit organizations, located in most of the larger states in the nation, whose goal is to help prevent worker injury, disease, and death. The groups maintain hot lines and provide information about such things as identifying and controlling toxic substances, and they refer callers to emergency health care providers and attorneys.
