The condition of poverty that exists within one family from one generation to the next. Because the children of impoverished parents are more likely to be deprived of quality education, healthy lifestyles, vocational opportunities, self-esteem, financial backing to pursue opportunities, and nurturing family support, they are more likely to remain poor and to raise their own children to be poor.
