delirium tremens (DTs)

A form of delirium resulting from withdrawal from excessive consumption of alcohol. The victim often develops such symptoms as fever, convulsions, tremor, and hallucination, generally occurring between one and four days after the drinking has stopped. The preferred professional term is withdrawal delirium.
