ஒரு சம்பவம் நடந்ததற்கான புற ஆதாரங்கள் எதுவுமில்லாதபோதும், அப்படி நடக்கலாம் என்று சொல்லத்தக்க கலாச்சார நம்பிக்கைகைகள் இல்லாதபோதும், இப்படி நடந்தது என்று நம்பும்படியான மாயத் தோற்றம் அல்லது எண்ணமயக்கம். இந்த மாதிரியான எண்ண மயக்கம் மனச் சிதைவு, இருமுனை மனக்கோளாறு, வற்றுளம் (வெறுமையுணர்வு paraphrenia) மனவெழுச்சிக் கோளாறுகளின் அறிகுறிகளாகக் கூட இருக்கலாம்.
