The federal agency created in 1913 to improve working conditions and worker safety and welfare, to secure employee benefits, to enhance employment opportunities, and to acquire and disseminate information about social conditions affecting employment. Its major offices and organizations include the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Labor Management Programs Services Administration, the Employment and Training Administration, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
