தாங்கள் வாழுமிடம் அகன்று அந்நியக் கலாச்சாரத்தில் / பண்பாட்டில் வாழநேரும் மனிதர்கள், குடும்பங்கள், குழுக்கள் அந்நியப் பண்பாட்டிற்கு தங்களைத் தகவமைத்துக் கொள்ளும் முறையை பண்பாடேற்றல் என்பர். இந்தப் பண்பாடேற்கும் தன்மை, எல்லோரிடமும் ஒரே மாதிரியாக நடக்காமல் வயது, பாலினம், கல்வி, பொருளாதார நிலை, முன் அனுபவம், சுய மதிப்பு, மாற்றத்திற்கு ஏதுவான சூழல் மற்றும் அதற்கான ஆதரவு பொறுத்து மாறுபடும்.

The process of adapting to new cultures (that is, to language, lifestyle, norms, and so forth) as experienced by people with different demographic characteristics. For example, individuals and families who emigrate to new countries adapt at different rates of speed and success, depending on factors such as age and developmental stage, educational level, prior experience or knowledge of the new culture, level of sophistication and self-esteem, and degree of available emotional support and nurturance.
