குணப்படுத்துபவர் / உதவி செய்பவர் என்ற நிபுணத்துவ / தொழில்முறை எல்லையைத் தாண்டி, பணம் கொடுக்கல் வாங்கல், காதல் ஈடுபாடு போன்ற தொழில் தர்மத்திற்குப் புறம்பான உறவுகளில் ஈடுபடுவது. இந்த மாதிரியான உறவுகள் வாடிக்கையாளர்களுக்குக் காலப்போக்கில் தீங்கிழைக்கும். இந்தமாதிரியான உறவுகளில் ஈடுபடுவதை சட்டமும், தொழில் நெறிகளும் தடை செய்கின்றன. வாடிக்கையாளருடன் பாலுறவுத் தொடர்பு வைத்துக்கொள்வதையும், வெளிப்படையான இரட்டை உறவுகளில் ஈடுபடுவதையும், தேசிய சமூகப்பணியாளர் சம்மேளனம் (NASW) மற்றும் நோய்சார்ந்த சமூகப்பணியாளர் தேசிய அமைப்பும் விதித்துள்ள தொழில் நெறிகளின்படி தடை செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது.

In clinical social work, the unethical practice of assuming a second role with the client, in addition to professional helper, such as friend, business associate, family member, or sex partner. According to Jill Doner Kagle and Pam N. Giebelhausen (“Dual Relationships and Professional Boundaries,” Social Work, 39 [March 1994], pp. 213–220), dual relationships tend to exploit clients or have long-term negative consequences for them. Workers who engage in these relationships are liable to legal as well as professional sanctions and probably should seek help. The NASW Code of Ethics has explicitly forbidden sexual relationships since the 1979 revisions; the explicit prohibition against other dual relationships was included in the 1994 code revisions. The prohibition against dual relationships has been in the code of ethics of the National Federation of Societies for Clinical Social Work (NFSCSW) since 1988.
