environmental treatment

The social casework concept that recognizes the effect of forces outside the individual and strives to modify these effects through techniques such as providing or locating specific resources, interpreting the needs of the client to others, advocacy, and mediation. Some social workers call this activity indirect treatment or “environmental modification.”
