ஒரு பிரச்சனையின் மீது சட்டமியற்ற அதிகாரமுள்ள குழுவிடமோ, பிரச்சனை மீது தீர்ப்பு வழங்க அதிகாரம் படைத்த நீதி மன்றத்திடமோ, தான் நிபுணத்துவம் பெற்றுள்ள தொழிலறிவைக்கொண்டு, பிரச்சனையின் தன்மைபற்றி, சேகரிக்கப்ப்ட்ட ஆதரங்களை மையமாகக் கொண்டு சொல்லப்படும் மதிப்பீடு / சாட்சியம். பொதுநலன் தொடர்பாக தாங்கள் இயற்ற உத்தேசித்திருக்கும் சட்டம் பயனுள்ளதாக இருக்கவேண்டி, சட்டமியற்றுபவர்கள், சமூகப்பணியாளர்களை அழைத்து கருத்து கேட்பதுண்டு. அதேமாதிரி, விவாகரத்து வழக்குகளில், குழந்தைகள் பராமரிப்பு மற்றும் புறக்கணிப்பு சம்பந்தமான வழக்குகளில், வீட்டு உரிமையாளர் மற்றும் குடித்தனக்காரர் வழக்குகளில், மனவளர்ச்சி குன்றியவர்கள் மற்றும் உடல் ஊனமுற்றவர்கள் பராமரிப்பு வழக்குகளிலும் இன்னும் பிற விசயங்களிலும் சமூகப்பணியாளர்களின் கருத்தை / சாட்சியத்தை நீதிமன்றங்கள் கேட்பதுண்டு.

One who testifies before a lawmaking group or in a court of law, based on special knowledge of the subject in question, enabling the decision makers to better assess the evidence or merits of the issue. Social workers are often called as expert witnesses before legislative bodies that seek to draft legislation to enhance the public welfare. Social workers are also frequently asked to testify as expert witnesses in court hearings, especially in disputes over custody of children, child neglect, welfare rights, marital dissolution, landlord– tenant controversies, and care for people with mental and physical disabilities.
