குடும்பம் என்ற உணர்வு பூர்வமான அமைப்பில், அதன் உறுப்பினர்கள் ஒருவரோடு ஒருவர் இணைந்தும், ஒருவரை ஒருவர் சார்ந்துமிருப்பதால் குடும்பத்திலுள்ள எவரையும் குடும்பப் பின்னணியிலிருந்து தனிமைப்படுத்திப் புரிந்துகொள்ள முடியாதென்ற டாக்டர் முர்ரே போவனின் கருத்தாக்கம்.

The application of systems theories (those that emphasize reciprocal relationships and mutual influences between the individual components and the whole and vice versa). Virtually all current family therapy approaches and theoretical orientations that focus on understanding or treating families use a systems theory; however, there are many variations and differences in emphases in these theories.
