Persistent failure to eat adequately resulting in weight loss or failure to gain weight. The onset of this disorder is in the first year but occasionally occurs after ages two or three. The disorder is not the result of gastrointestinal, endocrinological, or neurological conditions or lack of food. See also eating disorders, rumination disorder, and pica.
