ஒன்று அல்லது அதற்கு மேற்பட்ட திறமைகள், தனித்தன்மை வாய்ந்த குணம், நடத்தை, அதி புத்திசாலித்தனம் ஒருங்கே பெற்ற குழந்தைகளைக் குறிக்கும் சொல். இம்மாதிரியான குழந்தைகளைக் குறித்த பழைய சொல்லான இயல்பற்ற / மற்றவர் போலில்லாத பொதுநிலை மீறிய (exceptional children) குழந்தைகள் என்ற சொல் உடல் ஊனமுற்ற, மந்தபுத்தியுள்ள குழந்தைகளையும் குறித்ததால், இப்போது அந்தச் சொல் பயன்படுத்தப்படுவதில்லை.

A child who possesses one or more talents, exceptional skills, or high intelligence. This designation has come to be preferred by parents of such children over the former designation, exceptional children, which also included children with disabilities or below-normal intellectual functioning.
