Government National Mortgage Association (GNMA)

An agency of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that finances or ensures financing for the purchase of low-cost housing or of homes in areas where conventional loans are difficult to obtain. Mortgages issued by the association are informally known as “Ginnie Maes.”
