மனிதரையோ, சம்பவங்களையோ, பிரச்சனைகளையோ தனித்தனியாக அல்லாமல் முழுமையாகப் பார்க்கவேண்டும் என்ற நிலைப்பாடு. உதாரணமாக, மனிதர்களை அவர்களின் சூழல் சார்ந்த (சமூக, கலாச்சார, அரசியல், பொருளாதார, உளவியல்) பின்னணியில் புரிந்து கொள்ளவேண்டும் என்று வலியுறுத்தும் கோட்பாடு.
