A 1951 study of social work education conducted by Ernest Hollis and Alice Taylor, demonstrating the profession's increasing specialization, fragmentation, and growing orientation toward the case-by-case treatment of problems. The report recommended social work education that emphasized a more-generic orientation and a greater concern for social issues and social action. Many of the recommendations were accepted by the profession and became a foundation for the current objectives of social work education.
