மக்கள் அடர்த்தியைப் (density) பரவலாக்கவும், திறந்த வெளி நிலங்களில் மக்களைக் குடியமர்த்தவும், அமெரிக்காவின் மேற்கு மாநிலங்களில் 1862 ஆம் ஆண்டு நடைமுறைப்படுத்தப்பட்ட சட்டம். இச் சட்டத்தின்படி 160 ஏக்கர் பரப்பளவுள்ள அரசு நிலத்தைப் பெறுபவர்கள் அங்கேயே வீடு கட்டிக்கொண்டு குடியிருக்க வேண்டும்.

The 1862 federal legislation designed to redistribute the population, provide opportunities, and settle the open lands in the West. The law authorized any U.S. citizen to receive 160 acres of unoccupied government land free of charge by agreeing to live on it for five years.
