இக்கோளாறுகள் முன்னர் பெண்களை குறிக்கும் போது பாலுறவில் நாட்டமாற்ற பெண் (Frigid) என்றும் ஆண்களைக் குறிக்கும்போது ஆண்மையற்றவர் என்றும் (Impotent) என்றும் குறிக்கப்பட்டன. தற்போது இது பாலுணர்வு செயல்பிறழ்ச்சி என்று உளவியல் நோயாகக் கருதப்படுகின்றது. பாலுணர்வில் நாட்டமாற்ற நிலை தொடரும்போது உடல் மற்றும் மனரீதியான பிரச்சனைகளை உருவாக்குகிறது

A sexual disorder in which the individual has little or no urge for sexual activity. In making this diagnosis, sex therapists and other clinicians specify whether the condition is lifelong or acquired, generalized or situational, and caused by psychological or combined psychological–physiological problems.
