In social group work, the activities originated by group leaders in the preaffiliation phase of group development to create a comforting and productive atmosphere and become usefully acquainted with one another. Structured exercises help achieve this. For example, the leader might ask the new members to describe their goals for the group or indicate what they would most like to know about or reveal to the others. Another exercise is for the leader to ask each member to describe to the group everything imaginable about another member of the group, without the subject indicating whether the speculation is accurate or simply a projection or prejudice.
