அடையாளச் சீர்கேடு குழந்தைப் பருவத்திலும், வளரிளம் பருவத்திலும் தொடங்கும் நீடித்த சுய சந்தேகம் அல்லது அகத் தடுமாற்றம். தன்னுடைய குடும்பம், நண்பர்கள், பாலியல் வெளிப்பாடு, தார்மீக மதிப்பீடுகள் மற்றும் அடைய வேண்டிய இலக்குகள் பற்றி ஸ்திரமற்ற குழப்பமான அனுபவங்களுக்கு ஆட்படும் நிலை. இதில் அடையாள நெருக்கடியின் விளைவாக ஏற்படும் அனைத்து அறிகுறிகளும் காணப்பட்டாலும், ஆதரவான சூழலில் கூட இந்நெருக்கடிகள் நீடித்து இருக்கும்.

A mental disorder usually first observed in children and adolescents characterized by persistent and long-standing self-doubts. The individual experiences uncertainty about goals, moral values, sexual orientation, family, and friends. Symptoms of identity disorder are similar to the conflicts seen in identity crisis, except they have lasted longer and persist even when in supportive environments.
