வருமானப் பகிர்வு (Income Distribution) என்பது தனிநபர்கள் மற்றும் குடும்பங்களிடையே பணம் மற்றும் பிற உடமைகள் (செல்வம் - resources) எப்படிப் பகிர்ந்து கொள்ளப்பட்டிருக்கின்றது என்பதை அறிந்து கொள்ள உதவும் ஒரு கணிப்பு முறை. பல்வேறு மக்கள் குழுக்களிடையேயும் (விவசாயிகள், தொழிலாளர்கள், பல்வேறு ஜாதி, மதத்தினர், பெண்கள், முதியோர்), பூகோளப் பிராந்தியங்களிடையேயும் செல்வம் அல்லது வருமானம் எப்படிப் பகிரப்பட்டுள்ளது என்பதை அறிவது, பல்வேறு குழுக்களின் பொருளாதாரச் செழுமையை, வளத்தை அறிந்து கொள்ள உதவும். எந்த ஒரு நாட்டிலும் ஒரு சில இடங்கள் அல்லது மக்கள் குழுவினர் மட்டுமே பொருளாதார மேம்பாட்டை அடைந்துள்ளதையும், பல பகுதிகள், குழுவினர் வறுமையில் வாடுவதையும் புள்ளிவிவரங்கள் சுட்டிக்காட்டுகின்றன. பிராந்தியங்களுக்கிடையே, குழுக்களிடையே வருமானப் பகிர்வில் கண்டறியப்பட்டிருக்கின்ற ஏற்றத் தாழ்வுகள், ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட நாட்டில் மட்டுமல்ல, உலகில் எந்தவொரு இடத்திலும் அமைதியின்மையை உருவாக்கி, அரசியல் ஸ்திரத்தன்மையை அழித்துவிடும் என்று எல்லா அரசுகளும் நினைப்பதால், பொருளாதாரப் பகிர்வில் அக்கறை கொண்டு செயல்படுகின்றன.

Economists also apply this term to the division of income among functions in the economy, such as labor, capital, and real estate. Income distribution is a primary indicator of the economic well-being of various demographic groups in society (such as women, older people, black people, people who live in the South, and divorced people). The U.S. Bureau of the Census, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) compile income distribution statistics to determine the extent and location of poverty and affluence and to help in economic and social welfare planning.
