A nation's plan and regulation of its entire means of production, marketing, and distribution of goods through laws, subsidies, tax incentives, disincentives, and access to privileges. Nations vary in the degree to which their industrial policies are comprehensive and controlled, ranging from planned economies (for example, in Japan, Taiwan, and Korea) to relative laissez-faire (for example, in the United States and Australia).
