ஒரு நபர் வளர்ந்த பின்னும், குழந்தைக்குரிய நடத்தைகளுடன் இருப்பதை நேரடியாகவோ, மறைமுகமாகவோ ஊக்குவித்தல். தங்கள் குழந்தைகளை அதிகச் செல்லமாகவும், பாதுகாப்புடன் வளர்க்கும் பெற்றோர்களிடத்தில் இதைக் காணலாம். குழந்தைகளுடன் மழலை பாசையில் பேசுவது, தன் வயதிற்கொத்த மனமுதிர்ச்சியுடன் நடந்துகொள்ள வற்புறுத்தாதது போன்றவை எடுத்துக்காட்டுகளாகும். இதை நடத்தைப் பின்னடைவு என்றும், தன் வயதை விடக் குறைந்த வயதுள்ளவர்கள் போல் நடந்துகொள்வது என்றும் அழைப்பர்.

Overtly or covertly encouraging a person to behave in a manner more appropriate to an infant or small child. This pattern is often seen in parents or spouses who are overprotective. Examples are speaking to the person in baby talk or not requiring the person to behave with appropriate maturity. The term is also used to indicate behavioral regression or to indicate that a person's behavior is appropriate to a much younger person.
