எரிக் எரிக்சன் (1902-1994) என்ற உளவியலாரின் உள சமூக விருத்தி (psychosocial development) கோட்பாட்டில் எடுத்துரைத்த எட்டு வளர்ச்சிப் பருவ நிலைகளில் தன்முயற்சி Vs குற்ற உணர்வு என்பது மூன்று வயதிலிருந்து ஆறுவயதிற்குட்பட்ட மூன்றாம் பருவம். இந்தப் பருவத்தில் குழந்தைகள் கற்றுக்கொள்வதில், எதையும் கண்டறிவதில், சோதித்துப் பார்ப்பதில் ஆர்வம் கொள்வார்கள். அதே நேரம் அவர்கள் தவறிழைத்தால் பெற்றோர்கள் கண்டிப்பதாலும், அடிப்பதாலும், பிற குழந்தைகள் கேலிசெய்வதாலும் குற்ற உணர்வுக்கு ஆட்படுவார்கள்.

According to the psychosocial development theory of Erik Erikson (1902-1994), the third of the eight stages occurring at about ages three to six. The child may be encouraged for actively seeking to learn, discover, and experiment. On the other hand, the child may develop a pattern of passivity because rejection, punishment, and restrictiveness lead to a sense of wrongdoing or "badness."
