இந்த அமைப்பு சமூகப்பணிக் கல்வியின் மேம்பாட்டிற்காகவும், அதில் சீரான தரத்தை உறுதி செய்யவும், 1928 ஆம் ஆண்டிலே நிறுவப்பட்டது. இரு வருடங்களுக்கு ஒருமுறை மாநாடு நடத்தி, சமூகப்பணியில் ஆய்வு முயற்சிகளை ஊக்குவித்தும், சமூகப்பணி கல்வி குறித்த புரிதலைப் பரவலாக்கவும், சமூகப்பணிக் கல்லூரிகள் இல்லாத நாடுகளில் கல்லூரிகளை உருவாக்கவும் முயற்சிகள் செய்கின்றது. ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட கால இடைவெளியில் சமூகப்பணிக் கல்விக்கான உலகு தழுவிய வழிகாட்டி (World Guide to Social Work Education) ஒன்றை வெளியிடுகிறது. சமூகப் பணியாளர்களின் சர்வதேசக் கூட்டமைப்பு, (International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) .மற்றும் சமூகப்பணிக் கல்விக்கான சர்வதேச அமைப்புடன் (International Council for Social Welfare (ICSW), இணைந்து சர்வதேச சமூகப்பணி என்ற இதழையும் (Journal International Social Work) பிரசுரிக்கின்றது.

An organization of social work schools and educators founded in 1928 to improve training and ensure consistent standards for the higher levels of social work education. IASSW holds a biennial conference, encourages research and dissemination of knowledge, and helps in the development of new schools in underserved nations. It produces, periodically, the World Guide to Social Work Education and cosponsors, with the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) and the International Council for Social Welfare (ICSW), the journal International Social Work.
