சமூக நலத்தில் அக்கறையுள்ள பிறதுறையினர் மற்றும் தன்னார்வலர்களுடன், சமூகப்பணியாளர்களும் இணைந்து, 1928 ஆம் ஆண்டு சர்வதேச சமூகப்பணியாளர் சபையாக ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்டு, பின்னர் பெயர் மாற்றம் செய்யப்பட்டது. இது சர்வதேச சமூகப்பணி கல்லூரிகள் அமைப்புடனும் (International Association of Schools of Social Work - IASSW), சர்வதேச சமூகப்பணியாளர் அமைப்புடனும் (International Federation of Social Workers - IFSW) இணைந்து இருவருடங்களுக்கு ஒருமுறை மாநாடும், சர்வதேச சமூகப்பணி என்ற இதழும் நடத்தி வருகின்றது.

An interdisciplinary organization of social workers, other professionals, and volunteers interested in social welfare and social development. ICSW, founded in 1928 as the International Council of Social Work, hosts biennial meetings and frequent regional seminars. It is affiliated with the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) and the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), which together sponsor the journal International Social Work.
