வளரிளிம் பருவத்தினர் தனித்து வாழத் தொடங்குமுன்பு, தினப்படி செய்ய வேண்டிய கடமைகளைச் சுயமாகச் செய்துகொள்ள திறன்பெறுதல். தங்குமிடத்தை சுத்தமாகப் பராமரிப்பது, வரவறிந்து செலவு செய்வது, தன் சுத்தம், பார்க்கும்படியாகத் தோற்றமளிக்க கற்றுக் கொள்வது, பொதுப் போக்குவரத்தைப் பயன்படுத்தக் கற்றுக்கொள்வது போன்ற வெளிப்படையாகத் தெரியும் திறன்களும், மற்றவர்களுக்கு முகமன் கூறவும், நட்பைப் பேணவும், பெற்றோர் ஆசிரியர் எதிர்பார்ப்பிற்கேற்ப நடந்து கொள்ளுதல் போன்ற பார்வைக்குப் புலப்படா நுண் திறன்களும் இதில் அடங்கும்.

The ability to carry out the activities of daily living (ADL) that are expected of young people before emancipation in preparation for independent living. These include such tangible life skills as housekeeping, financial management, hygiene, personal appearance, and the ability to access public transportation. Intangible junior life skills include knowing how to greet people, form and maintain friendships, and behave compatibly according to parental and educator expectations.
