ஒரு நாட்டின் ஆளுகை எல்லைக்குள் வாழும் அனைவரையும் ஒழுங்குபடுத்தும் சட்டங்களை இயற்றுவதற்கும், அதைக் கற்பிப்பதற்கும், அச்சட்டங்களை அமுல்படுத்த காவல் மற்றும் நீதிமன்றங்களும், சட்டத்தை மீறியவர்களைத் தண்டிப்பதற்கும் (சிறைச்சாலை) ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்ட வசதிகள் மற்றும் நிறுவனங்களின் தொகுப்பை நீதி அமைப்பு என்கிறோம். இந்த நீதி அமைப்புகள் கிராமங்களில் சமுதாயக் கட்டுப்பாடுகளாகவும் (ஆலமரத்தடி பஞ்சாயத்து) மாநகரங்களில் காவல் துறையாகவும், பெரிய நீதிமன்றங்களாகவும் அமைந்துள்ளன.

The social institutions, facilities, and people—including police, the prison and parole systems, the legal profession, the judiciary, and investigative organizations—that provide the means for enforcing and interpreting the laws of the land. In the United States, this system is coordinated and influenced, to a major extent, by the U.S. Department of Justice.
