Social work educator, physician, and psychoanalyst, she developed conceptual frameworks that integrated psychoanalytic theory with social work knowledge. In addition to her psychoanalytic work and advocacy for mental health programs, her long-time teaching at Columbia University School of Social Work helped generations of social work students understand the relevance of ego psychology and other psychodynamic concepts to social work knowledge.
