latent schizophrenia

An imprecise and obsolete term rather than a diagnostic entity, referring to early or mild signs of schizophrenia (sometimes flat affect, some paranoid ideation, and thought disorders) but no clear-cut psychotic episodes or gross breaking with reality. Other obsolete terms also in common use by professionals to describe this condition have been "borderline schizophrenia," "prepsychotic," or "incipient psychosis."
