இயலாமையால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட குழந்தைகள், கூடிய மட்டிலும் இயல்பான மற்ற குழந்தைகளுடன் இணைந்து கல்வி கற்கும் சூழலை உருவாக்க ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்ட நடைமுறையே குறைவான தடைகளுள்ள சூழல் எனப்படுகிறது. ஊனமுற்ற குழந்தைகளின் பிரத்தேயகத் தேவைகளை மனதில் கொண்டு, அதே நேரத்தில் ஊனத்தைக் காரணம் காட்டித் தனிமைப்படுத்தியோ அல்லது பிற குழந்தைகளிலிருந்து விலக்கி வைக்கவோ கூடாது என்பது இதன் நோக்கம்.

The term educators use for the legal requirement to place children with disabilities in learning situations that meet their special needs while most closely approximating that of the child without disabilities. Many educators think LRE is a synonym for mainstreaming. However, even though most children with disabilities under this provision are placed in normal classrooms, in some circumstances, some restrictions may be necessary. See also inclusion.
