A professional social worker who has been legally accredited by a state government to engage in clinical social work in that state. The initials LCSW after a professional's name indicate possession of the license and the relevant qualifications. Qualifications for the license vary from state to state. Many states require an MS W degree from an accredited graduate school, several years of supervised professional experience, and successful completion of the state's social work licensing exam.
