linear perspective

The term used by family therapists with systems theories perspective to describe people who think in cause–effect terms. To have a linear perspective is to view behavior and events as resulting directly from specific causes rather than as being part of an endless cycle in a system. The linear perspective is said to be narrow and rigid because it does not consider the myriad influences and circularity of patterns that exist in social and environmental systems.
