ஒரு நபர் பல காரணங்களுக்காக ஒரு பிராந்தியத்தோடோ அல்லது பகுதியோடோ பிணைக்கப்பட்டிருத்தல். சமூகக் காரணங்களுக்காக, (தம்பதியினரில் யாரேனும் ஒருவர் அங்கு வேலை செய்வதாலோ அல்லது சொத்துக்களைப் பராமரிக்கவேண்டியோ, வயதான பெற்றோர்களுடனிருக்க வேண்டியோ, தங்கள் குழந்தைகளின் கல்வி வசதி பொருட்டோ), மருத்துவக் காரணங்களுக்காக (சுத்தமான காற்று மித வெப்பநிலை அல்லது மிதகுளிரான) ஒரே இடத்தில் வாழும்படியான கட்டாயம் ஏற்படுதல். வாழ்க்கையில் நல்ல வாய்ப்புக்கள் கிடைக்கப்பெற்றாலும், அவர்களால் பிற இடங்களுக்கு இடம்பெற இயலாதாகையால், பல வகைகளில் பாதிப்புக்கு உள்ளாகின்றனர்.

Some reasons include a spouse's employment or preferences; the need to care for aging parents; the need for children to be near special-education facilities; and breathing disorders requiring residence in a clean, dry climate.
