Modified adjusted gross income, the annual amount of earned income less deductions one reports to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), plus any tax-free interest income received during that year. The resulting MAGI figure is used by the Social Security Administration (SSA) in calculating the retirement benefit one may receive.
